About the Project

Camp Sandjak, a populated slum area in the Dora region of Beirut, has been the topic of many discussions and debates, up until its demolishment decision that was taken in 2017. Prior to that decision, a design proposal was elaborated to develop a housing and mixed-use project, aiming at projecting the concept in accordance with the continuous densification occurring there throughout the years. The project rises above the idea of existing scattered units and vertically recreates its chaos, its alleys, and its architectural language, in a tamed manner. It faces the main highway from one side, with its commercial and public façade that acts at the same time as a link as well as a barrier, between the chaotic and tumultuous back and the structured front.
